Moving over to fibre broadband sky stream speeds bit low

According to sky broadband engineer who visited me last week suggested to move to fibre broadband instead makes as the current speeds are much slower so he suggested move to fibre instead I did post it on broadband site but no one as replied to that question many thanks he thinks the current speeds are a low speed instead of being faster

What exactly is your question? Broadband speeds vary in different parts of the country. Fibre does tend to be faster but it depends on your location. Give Sky a ring to discuss which options are available to you.

@Jonathanphillip full fibre can deliver higher speeds to the hub but if the limitation of you current service is poor wifi speeds in your home these wont improve unless you get more wifi equipment.

@Jonathanphillip if you already have Stream run a speed test via the Netflix app. If you can run a test over WiFi and then ethernet (remember to turn off WiFi in the Stream menu) we'll be able to see what speeds you are getting and whether full fibre will be beneficial or not. If it's slow over ethernet, then fibre will be much better. If it's fast over ethernet but slow over WiFi, then your WiFi signal is the issue.

@Chrisee I got informed by sky broadband engineer he said to switch off WiFi mode which I get told by people on here and if using ethernet supply that helps massively and ethernet does help about all he said

And plus with it breaking down loads that's another thing he said with it breaking down which for is now not happening it seems to have calmed down now not having issues as much

@Nigelb1972 we got told via engineer that came he said switch off WiFi mode and just use ethernet only as that helps I've done that before which I get told on here don't use WiFi so he must know if that's possible I get told that option must have done loads of tests to figure out why it's breaking down loads streaming must be a WiFi issue that's the reason why he thinks i should move to fibre

@Jonathanphillip try running the speed tests through the Netflix app as they'll show what speeds your puck is getting. This is the best way to establish whether it's a WiFi issue or you just have slow broadband.

@Jonathanphillip That's a bit borderline in my opinion and when it fluctuates you'll probably get disruption at that speed.

If that's with Ethernet then I would suggest that fibre would be a good upgrade for you.

@Jonathanphillip that's very borderline to Sky's recommended speeds so could easily result in a inadequate Stream experience. If you have Full Fibre available in the area, I'd go for an upgrade. You should be able to get 150mbps for around £30 a month or 500mbps for around £35...

If you have a few devices, like games consoles etc and kids streaming, I'd go for 500mbps to give yourself some extra capacity.

We're on 500mbps which is overkill but Stream works perfectly with it alongside all the other connected devices.

According to sky engineer he said you got a slow broadband speed he checked it sky broadband superfast 35 he confirmed that so it needs faster broadband speed makes sense he can't understand why sky put you on that package

@Jonathanphillip it's possible that all that was available at the time you signed up. FTTC is very dependent on distance from the cabinet, so, if you're a fair trek away you will get slower than the 84mbps-ish it's capable of in ideal conditions.

If you can get Full Fibre from Sky, it's well worth the upgrade and it might even be cheaper as Openreach are pricing aggressively to encourage users to move over as it's cheaper to provide and is more reliable than FTTC.

@Jonathanphillip you should be able to upgrade whilst in your current contract ( which would of course start a new 24 month contract) if fibre is available in your area.
