So many ads

Ive just joined Sky from Virgin and am starting to regret it... So many Ads, Ive never seen so many, I spend more time with ads than programs especially if Im channel hopping.. it getting unusable.

Not actually possible under Ofcom regulation, but you'll certainly see more if you're changing channels a lot because the time limit is per channel each day and within any one item of content.

The regulator's current rules state that, for channels three to five, the "total amount of advertising in any one day must not exceed an average of seven minutes per hour of broadcasting".

The channels can run advertising breaks of up to eight minutes per hour during prime time periods of 18:00-23:00 and 07:00-09:00.

Other channels are allowed up to nine minutes of advertising per hour of broadcasting, plus an extra three minutes for teleshopping

I totally agree far too many ads now on these so called premium services all together paying an average of upwards £100 for streaming i would personally prefer fewer streaming subscription that are totally ad free for a premium service I pay for the ad free version of netflix i will stick with that this new paramount plus with ads plan is now worthless to me with the adverts included so i logged out and will not use again. Not sure I will subscribe to cinema next time as and ad version of paramount is worthless to me. Remember when any service with ads was free like ITV now they are getting you to pay to watch ads and it wont be too many years until these cheaper ad plans cost just as much as the serive orginally did.

Ultimately the TV advertising market has collasped over the last few years, mainly due to people watching traditional TV less or more people "recording" so they can fast forward the ads. On-demand catch-up services have been generating vast loses for years, its the reason we are now seeing prices being hiked annually on most services, and the introduction of basic tiers with the inclusion of non-skippable ads ( these are the only types of ads the advertisers would find value in as it "forces" eyes on the adverts).

Just switched over to sky and got the puck. Tried to watch something this morning. 11 adverts before the programme started, 2 whole minutes of the show before another four adverts. 10 more mins of show then 6 adverts.

Really disappointed I changed, stuck in this for two years now

If you've had Sky Stream less than 31 days then you can easily cancel without penalty.

If you've had it for longer then you can still end your contract early if you've had issues with lip sync or any other functionality and reported them to Sky. Many people have been released from long term contracts penalty free due to such problems.

why am I paying a pretty hefty sum for a service that is not value for money. The Sky Board are making fortunes off customer' backs

We've stopped watching Sky now, I wouldnt have ever believed Id be saying that but its all ads. We still have a year left on our contract but wont be renewing. We have started watching Youtube, still a few ads but not as overwelming and loads to watch..

I can't speak to their salaries, but in a very challenging media landscape Sky Group generated losses for the Comcast Corporation in 2022 and 2023. No-one is making a fortune in broadcast television these days.

I agree with MCoops. Sky forget their responsibility to customers and that it to ensure

a pleasurable watching experience. And I won't mention the continuous programme repeats. The main reason I cancelled my Cinema subscription.

Sky isn't responsible for what any of the non-Sky-branded channels choose to broadcast.

An ever-increasing percentage of original content is commissioned by the international streaming giants which means it's not on broadcast television anyway.

I totally agree this pick should come with a hockey stick to bat it out the door, sky tv is no longer fit for purpose! I'm watching (or trying) to watch banshee on Atlantic and you can see the advert bars are much longer than 10 mins per hour! Then if you pause it to get a drink it restarts and makes you watch another 3 min adverts, can't wait to be out of contract I shall not be continuing with this 💩

The repeat, repeat, repeats I'm saying are Sky programmes.
Reluctantly, have made an extra payment to watch ad-free Netflix. That , BBC , channels, and PBS(minimal ads) make up my TV experiences.

Am investigating YouTube as a Sky replacement.

I currently pay for the ad skip which is insulting if you are paying extra on demand content from sky should be totally ad free like Netflix, etc.

Also recently with ad skip it sometimes show part of or all of the last ad not exactly ad skip at all more like ad reduce

Not familiar with ad-skip. Doesn't sound as it says on the tin.

I pay £4/month for ad-free Netflix. It's with reluctance but does give a better viewing experience.

Perhaps Now with Boost/Ultra Boost would be better for you. All Sky's on demand material are ad free.
