Why do I need a puck?

Why isn't Sky an App (like Netflix or Amazon Prime)? Why do I need a Puck, which leaves wires (power and HDMI) to deal with, which is difficult for wall-mounted TVs.

@MKB1 Sky don't have a stream app, therefore you either need a puck or alternatively use Now TV if you don't want additional boxes.

Because Sky is a thirty-five year old hardware manufacturing company which pre-dates widespread personal computer use (and internet access fast enough for streaming) while Prime Video and Netflix are between ten and fifteen years younger and never needed their own appliances.

Or, to put it another way, Sky arrives before Windows 3.1 and Netflix is after Windows 98

Also, so Sky can create an ecosystem where they know their hardware works and don't have to deal with people subscribing without having a device capable of running the system and OS.
