Same issue here with the puck plugged into my Yamaha receiver.

Understand it's a HDMI handshake issue, however I've had a virgin 360 box previously, and it would save the 2160p picture setting permanently in the same setup.

I feel sky should make an option to force 2160p input unless changed

My Sky Stream Puck resets to 1080p resolution every day when I come to switch it on in the morning.

The puck is connected to my AVR, which is connected to my TV; I have an HDMI 2.1 cable, 4K AVR, and 4K TV.

I find it strange that I can turn my puck on and off throughout the day with no issues, and it continues to output Ultra HD, however when it comes to the morning it defaults back to 1080p.

Does anyone have any solutions as it is quite frustating having to manually switch it back to 2160p every day.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like an overnight power saving mode either on your TV/AVR or the Puck, that is dropping the hdmi connection.

If you have not done so already, in the Puck settings under Start up and standby, turn the Overnight power saving to Off.

Once you have made that change, also do a settings restart that will make sure the option is saved.

Go to Settings>Systems Management>Resets & Updates
Select Restart device
Your Sky Stream puck will perform a reboot. It will take a few minutes to complete

When your puck comes on it must see a UHD capable display or it will revert to HD. Make sure your avr and tv are on and ready before the puck comes ready. I have had this happen.

Surely there is a way to save the puck in 2160 so this doesn't happen?
even worse my other puck which is connected to a Denon UHD amp and 1080p projector always defaults to 540.
sky really need to improve the Stream service it is vastly overpriced for the quality of the service provided.

@maxinechapman1 unfortunately the issue is down to the way the HDMI system works not the programming of the puck. When the puck comes out of standby it sends a handshake message which sets out what video and audio standards it supports and the device at the other end of the cable replies in the same way and the two negotiate the best connection possible. If the other device does not reply in time the puck stops listening and goes to its default output which is 1080i. The suggestion of powering up the other devices first is a good one as it normally sorts this out. .

You projector connection is weird as something is telling the puck to switch to 540 which is a non-standard output you need to check the settings on the amp as that is the most likely culprit.

Exactly. Why not code so it checks after a 2 second delay. Save people the hassle of putting delays in place. Clearly others are doing something similar as Smart TV handles the scaling without issue. Sky Stream is a budget product at a premium price.

I have been answering posts on AV issues for many years and the occasional HDMI handshake issue still happen. If you search on line you will find similar reports for occasional Apple TV units no device is 100% immune. There are literally millions of Sky Stream pucks in use and it is inevitable in some set ups occasionally customers hit issues but it does not indicate a design fault. Stream pucks meet the HDMI 2.1 standard so in theory should connect to any other of the over 10billion devices with a HDMI port but life is a tad more complcated than that.

There are multiple possible causes of these faults. They are more common where there are additional devices in the chain like an AV amp however a cable can cause the issue especially where cable lengths are over 5m. The exchange of information is known as Enhanced Extended Display Identification Data which is a standard developed by VESA and adopted by the HDMI

So from what you say, it must be faulty device or cable then. Cannot put it down to how HDMI works or simply that life is complicated. There must be a technical reason for it. As I alluded to, my Apple TV has been working consistently on UHD everyday for several years. So how HDMI works is a known quantity and proven. I can take the cable out of the equation by swapping it with my Apple TV and even keep all else the same. The only variable would be the puck in that case. Will test it out. If it is not a design issue then it is a quality issue in my case.

I was not questioning your experience. I stated that I simply did not agree. Thanks for elaborating on the rest.

Any thing in the connection chain can cause the problem but direct connection from a puck to a standard TV is unlikely. However one odd ball thought checkthe HDMI port set up on the TV for a setting like HDMI colour which is worth trying both off and on.
