I live remotely and don't have access to fibre broadband. I have an EE 5G SMart Hub with download speeds of 100-160 Mbps. Upload 10-20 Mbps. Despite this, my sky stream puck keeps either losing internet connection mid programme, this freezing or losing the broadcast, or I get pixellation. Any advice please?

I know of a few that run with dedicated 4g/5g routers and have a good fault free experience of Sky Stream.

Not just your broadband speed to your router being a factor, but how the broadband from your router within your household is supplied (along with at times busy household) over wifi/ethernet within your household.

Best way to check if your Sky Stream puck is getting a good reliable speed is doing a network speed test on your puck/s.

Launch Netflix on your pucks (you do not need to be logged into it, if you do not use netflix) and scroll down the left menu to Get help.
Choose Check Network.
Would suggest running the test a good handful of times, say over an hourly period or longer.
What is your speed?

Sky recommended minimum broadband speed of 25Mbps.
Or 30Mbps if you add an extra Sky Stream puck or to watch in UHD.

The live sync option also when in use adds a few Mbps per puck.

You could always try connecting an ethernet cable to your 5g router ( if it has one)

If you do that, make sure you turn wifi off in the Network section of the Puck settings.

One solution ( if you do not already) that I know and especially many in more rural areas do, is to attach an external antenna for the 4g/5g router to get an improvement overall in your speed, latency and reliability.

It is a one off cost, but from what I have seen is well worth it.

A good website forum that discusses 4g/5g and external antennas is ispreview.

Might be worth a look for some further helpful advice.

Dear Lettice

Thank you for all these suggestions.

I have just run the netfix test and get three green ticks and a connection speed of 92.77 Mbps.

i have also just done a Stest on the Speettest app and it's 143Mbps download and 25.7Mbps upload. Hence, it's curious

I have three pucks (lounge, dining room and bedroom) but only one is in use at a time.

I have connected my loungr puck to the router via Ethernet and will monitor how this goes.

I'll look into the external attena option, also, thank you.

Thanks for all this and for getting back to me so promptly.

I'll monitor and see how it goes.

thanks again

Mike 😁
