I added a few films from channels like Legend and Great a couple of months back and they all cloud recorded. I had not got round to watching any of them and checked my playlist the other day to find all these films are now showing as available on Sky Store only and the cloud recordings have disappeared. Do you only get a limited time to watch something recorded? I assumed these would be available for as long as you need.

Yup, cloud recorded content will only be on the sky servers for however long they are legally able to keep them.

I've seen some things, particularly sporting events where the cloud recording is deleted 48 hours at the initial broadcast has ended, and also recordings on some of the smaller channels like Great and Legend get deleted after a few months. I'm sure these smaller broadcasters don't want the content to be permanently available as otherwise people may just watch the cloud recordings and not actually continue to watch the channels which means they lose out of advertising revenue.

I assumed these would be available for as long as you need.

Sky themselves say retention is twelve months or less.

Shows saved for 12 months

Most shows and movies in your Playlist will be saved for 12 months. Some that are available through a TV app, like Netflix or ITVX, might not be available for that long, as they have different contractual agreements.

For example, most programmes from BBC iPlayer are available for 12 months. But some, like Match of the Day or the News, aren't available for as long.

But this wasn't even 12 weeks let alone 12 months!
