The ad skip button is a far better and welcome improvement on how it worked before and I dont mind paying as others have similar advert removal addons but come on sky for your own content the ad skip button is not necessary just remove the ads all together on skys own on demand its the right way forward at this price point. Having to press a skip button every ad break is next to impossible with people with mobility or disablities and need assistance for stuff like handling the remote control. Plus the advertisers are not getting any benefit with the new ad skip button so just remove the ads all together for your own content its a much more smooth premium service then matching netflix, etc

Great new update I have to say. I have taken on the free trial and it's great. Personally though I won't keep it after the trail period as I don't agree that one should have to pay for it as we pay enough, and it should ought to be included.

Hi @Super+Anthony

I agree it's a great addition. I do agree it would be nice if it was free but it's the way of the world now with all the streaming services (Netflix, Prime, D+, Disney etc) all having adverts and ad free tiers.

So a fiver isn't to bad for it working on ITV, C4 and now this button on Sky content. But play the game and see if you can keep getting a trial!

MikeAlanR

Sky will have extremely precise figures (down to the second) for what proportion of adverts gets watched, and they can feed these back to advertisers as part of a value-added package.

https://www.adsmartfromsky.co.uk/

They can also sell advertising space to clients specifically knowing a particular viewer doesn't skip...

I suppose there must be a reason but if you want to charge between 5 and 10 pounds extra you really need to be removing the ads from your own content otherwise everybody will always be looking for it to be discounted or the constant 2 free month trial. Charge a sensible price and make it truly ad free just like all the others with similar ad and ad free services 👍

Perhaps worth remembering that Sky has been around decades longer than the dedicated streamers, and has a deeply entrenched business model which fundamentally involves selling advertising space.

I understand what you mean but I also think it's worth remembering that sky have decided to move into the streaming era with the product sky stream and the big streamers Netflix, prime, Disney are now major competitors that are offering things like true ad free for a price and also the ability to watch on multiple devices in the same house without paying extra, if you don't stay competitive it does not usually end well. I really like the sky stream idea but it could be so much better in terms of hardware, reliability and offering a premium ad free service. I suppose time will tell 👍

Stream is great but is not functioning as well as it should, and it's up to Sky to get it to where it should be. It has been out for a while now and it should be better at this stage

Those are fundamentally different businesses: Sky is a regional broadcaster with multiple live EPG channels landing on dedicated hardware, not a global platform distributing from CDNs entirely on-demand into an app.
