Sky Stream asking for PIN

Guests currently staying in holiday cottage have been asked for a PIN, ay ideas why that would suddenly happen? For security reasons don't want to hand that out as they could download movies, pay per view items.

Mandatory Daytime Protection is an OFCOM requirement of all providers, which enforces use of a PIN before viewers are able to watch some content before the watershed.

No domestic Sky platform is intended for 'guest' use: it's somewhere between inadvisable and actually forbidden according to the T&C's, which is why there's no PIN separate to the subscription account itself.

A PIN challenge probably means they are trying to turn to a channel such as Sky Atlantic which is carrying post-watershed content before 21:00, as is typical in that schedule (House of the Dragon followed by True Detective this afternoon, neither of which could otherwise be carried at this time of day without seriously upsetting Ofcom)

A lot of Sky on-demand content is also behind a PIN, as are some seemingly innocuous items (including episodes of the Simpsons) on other broadcast Sky channels. The majority of Sky Cinema is PIN-controlled, for obvious reasons.

You shouldn't installed pucks in holiday cottages ... Smart TVs are best so guests can log on to their own subscription services or PSB apps🤔

Although judging from the ones we've stayed in, they rarely remember to log off...

That's the only time I've ever watched anything on Apple TV.

Rocku are really good for holiday let's. They have guest mode and you can sign out remotely if they have forgotten to do so before new ones arrive.

As stated it is against the t&c's to use Sky puck for commercial purposes.

That's very neat, particularly letting guests choose their departure date on which the device will re-set. Almost as if someone at Roku understands how such devices are actually used, rather than Sky being stuck somewhere in the mid-90s with single user satellite; )

Thank you so much for the useful feedback. I will be changing to another provider this month and will look at Roku to avoid such situations in the future.

So I am right in thinking if I hand over the PIN I could incur multiple charges for things such as movies that is correct I believe?
