remote is dead straight from box

brand new user here. last hour spent browsing help sites, but all require a working remote to start with. btw i've tried to open the remote but no joy (unless i remove the cover forcibly, not done that yet)

any advice apart from cancelling on day 1?

It sounds like the strip of paper which insulates the battery may not have come away cleanly. If so, you'll need to open the remote to remove it.

Place the remote keys down in the palm of one hand, then using the other, press downwards and in the direction of the arrow on the rear cover. A rubber of latex glove may help increase your grip. The cover will 'give' a few mm and then can be lifted off.

As above, use something to grip the back of the remote and remove the cover in the action below;

Remove the back cover of the remote by sliding the cover down. Follow the direction of the small arrow symbol on the back of the remote.
