topic LC102-01 controller in Sky Stream

LC102-01 controller

Hi. New to Sky. Have been sent a streaming box type IP061-,rf-zzz and remote control LC102-01-SKY-zzz but no instruction leaflet to explain how to use it. Now I have largely worked it out for myself but have two issues... first what is the top right button (marked with four coloured dots) for? - it doesn't seem to do anything at all. Second I need to find out how to fully use the recording function, in particular how to record individual episodes of programmes, how to find individual recordings and delete them after use, and would like to know the recording capacity of the box.

In addition to the guides @GD1 has pointed you to. The colours dots are the replacement for the old coloured buttons so to access iPlayer menu from BBC channels or access race control on Sky Sports F1.

Re recording. Pucks don't record. They point you to the broadcasters catch-up service or to a Sky cloud recording. As a result you can't manage individual episodes see the "Playlist and TV Guide" guide under using Sky stream on @GD1s link.

Early publicity for Stream claimed '1000 hours of cloud recording'. The box itself has no storage and a great deal of playback is from channel apps rather than user-specific server space (if any such thing actually exists) so it's all a bit nebulous.

Thanks, Mike. This throws up a question.. If A favourite old movie or a one-off documentary comes up on let's say BBC1 when I am away for a few days or on holiday and I want to record it for later viewing, how can I do this? It's dead easy on Virgin media so surely it should also be possible on Sky??

If you go to TV guide and long press the right arrow you can go 7 days in advance. You then press the + arrow to playlist. This will either bookmark it to say iPlayer or cloud record depending on the content.

You can't set this remotely via an app unfortunately.

You would look for it on the EPG in advance and add it to your playlist.

When you return you would select the programme/movie in your playlist and it will trigger BBC iPlayer to open and stream it, but (and it's sometimes a big BUT) this will only happen if the BBC have on demand streaming rights for that particular programme/movie.

Most content shown on BBC channels will be available on iPlayer for a minimum of 7 or 31days, and often up to a year, but you have no control over this.

If the movie you want to watch for example is available on another streaming service which holds the streaming rights then you will be directed to watch it on that service. This may be a subscription service such as Sky Cinema, Disney+, or Prime Video. If you do not pay for a subscription to such a service then you will not be able to watch it.

It's best not to think of Sky Stream as being like a hard drive in the cloud. It's not. You don't have a personal storage area in which you can delete individual episodes or recordings. Your playlist is just a list of bookmarks which trigger playback of streamable files hosted on various servers, run by various streaming services. You can remove these bookmarks, but they only work for entire series, not individual episodes.
