DTS-X is a new codec so even in Passthrough mode, you'll still need either a TV or Audio kit on the other end that can decode it and it doesn't seem to be particularly well supported at the moment

I know Disney are starting to roll this out slowly (and annoyingly by not telling anyone what devices are currently enabled for it!)

Given the Puck has a 'passthrough' option. Would this be enabled by disney in the near future?

is the puck capable of doing that format in passthrough? I assume so.

Officially your device needs to have the 'imax enhanced' certification, but they have said if you don't have it but your TV/AV receiver does fully support DTSX then you can still use that option.

My TV doesn't have DTSX but can pass it through eARC, but Disney+ never ever will because tV reports as DTSX=NO, when it should really say DTS=YES* (*via AV Receiver)

just a thought, Atmos is good for me though.

The problem with DTS X & Disney's Disney+ Enhanced for IMAX films/shows is that it requires DTS X Profile X support on the streaming device/box, which vanishingly few devices support. Most streaming devices seem to exclusively license Dolby's audio codecs and precious few support DTS, a sign of how completely Dolby dominate the streaming market with Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus and Atmos.

I do have a few 4K discs with DTS X support (Hitchock's Psycho & Vertigo chief amongst them) and they can give impressive results, certainly akin to the better Atmos soundtracks out there. DTS X Profile 2 support is thin on the ground though; my Apple TV 4K devices do not support it, and neither do PS5 or XBOX Series X, despite both console supporting DTS other codecs already and having enough grunt & updatable firmware & apps support Profile 2 in theory.

From reading elsewhere, only a handful of very recent, high end Sony & LG TVs support DTS X Profile 2. Hopefully support will spread elsewhere where hardware and licensing permits, but so far Disney+ DTS X support is pretty rare. Will Glass TV/Stream puck ever support it. Who knows? I'm not optimistic though,

I would like to hear it though, as I'm a big fan of the Disney+ IMAX Enhanced films on there already with their taller/variable aspect ratios.

My Sony receiver does support dts-x.

I thought the point of pass through was so that nothing is decided at the box but the receiver instead.

Surely the Puck doesn't need dts-x but rather the ability to tell Disney+ 'I can do it' if audio is on pass through.

I don't have an apple tv so I am not aware of it's audio settings.

Thanks for the posts so far, nice to see more detailed explanations. I have a uhd blu ray player (Sony ubp-x800m2) and yes dts-x on that is quite good if done well.

The Puck still has to support it as there are probably licensing fees to be paid by the hardware manufacturers as it's not an open source format
