BBC iPlayer Bug UHD

Anyone randomly lost UHD through iplayer ? Haven't changed any settings in months, watching new season of Vigil and UHD versions have seemingly disappeared over night.

ill try a reset later when home , but just checking ahead in case was a known issue?

Mine still shows UHD content on iPlayer. Are you using Stream or Sky Glass because if you're using Stream, BBC could have updated something which has made iPlayer UHD incompatible with your TV...

Am on stream, but on the native app via the TV it does still show a UHD option.

I'll do a restart and refresh app when i get home.

@M3rk might be worth checking what version of the Steam software your puck is running. I guess its feasible its received the Q24 update and this could a bug.

@M3rk ahh could be that a system update has caused a reset of your iPlayer settings. Check them when you can because you used to have to enable UHD as part of the Beta trial, not sure if that's still the case or not

@M3rk Have you checked "Picture and Sound" options under Settings? On my puck it seems to revert to 1080p every so often so I have to reset to 2160p to get UHD on iPlayer.

Beta mode is no longer required to get UHD via the iPlayer.

Just got my Sky Stream pucks after transferring from Q (28 days to decide to keep and counting !) ...

Adding to this thread as having got latest puck OS on install and 'refreshed apps' I am not seeing any UHD icons on the BBC iPlayer shows that should have them ?

Just went into iPlayer system info and it's showing my 4K tv as only having a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 with matching layout resolution? ... I believe I don't need to be in beta mode for UHD anymore but the resolution issue isn't changing for either mode ...

I have the UHD pack and can see sky shows/movies/sports with UHD resolution available - Stream picture resolution is set to Auto ...

Any thoughts folks ?

Tried that already - no change ... I know there is UHD content flags on the program thumbnails as it shows on my Roku stick on my bedroonm 4k set and I specifically asked at a Sky pop-up stall in a shopping centre while I was passing a few weeks ago and got that aspect demonstrated - one of the reasons I wanted to move from Sky Q as the iPlayer app on there didn't support the UHD shows ...

@jont-99 Have you checked iPlayer has the settings for best picture option selected

Open iplyaer on the puck scroll down to settings, scrool to video quality, best quality should be set to on.

On mine I also have Iplayer beta set to on , although I dont think you relly need to have this selected.

UHD definitly available on mine, same Application version. What about the HDMI HDR setting on your tv?

It's a 4K Sony - 4K on that HDMI input albeit no HDR - that shouldn't stop it showing UHD flag though on BBC and doesn't explain why iPlayer sees the screen as normal HD resolution ?

If I turn off HDMI HDR on my Panasonic DX902 the UHD flags disappear. I think all iPlayer UHD content is HLG(HDR) otherwise it reverts to 1080p, however, your puck will upscale to 2160p if set to that resolution. It seems you'll only get full UHD if your TV can do HLG.

Bizarre behaviour ! ... so just setup the 2nd puck on my LGC2 - which has HDR/HLG/DV and the UHD icons are showing on the thumbnails on iPlayer - but the screen resolution in iPlayer system settings are still 1920x1080 ? ... guessing the iPayer interface is HD only and the programmes stream in HD/4K as encoded ...

Am also seeing the HDR flag on Sky show details alongside UHD on teh LG - which is correct but frustrating that there's no consistency between platforms in their programme flags !

Originally Sky adopted HLG as their preferred HDR version as it meant you could, in theory, use the same content file for both UHD HDR and UHD SDR. However, as is the case, standards are not always standard, so earlier TVs had problems knowing what type of content they were being fed and the single UHD HLG file would look dark on certain TVs. That's why Sky now offer three formats where available, Ultra HD with HDR, Ultra HD and HD.

iPlayer only offers UHD with HLG (HDR) if your TV reports back via HDMI EDID that it is compatible.

So over the last couple of days I've been watching This City Is Ours In UHD and after the Stream box is switched off, the app reverts to the non UHD version of the app and the only way to resolve it is to go into the IPlayer settings and switch on or off the beta version. This then reloads the app so UHD is offered. Is this happening to any one else?
