topic Sky Stream or Sky Q in Sky Stream

I gave sky a call yesterday as a new customer as I wanted to sign up to Sky Q, and I was talked into sky stream instead.
I am wondering if this is the right way to go as I don't like the idea of all my shows shown in a 'playlist' and scrolling through trying to find what I haven't watched. The guy on the phone told me I can't fast forward through adverts on sky Q, but I am seeing a lot of mixed information online.

I'm hoping someone can help answer a couple of questions please?
1. Can you fast forward adverts on Sky Q if a programme is in the recordings? For example the box has recorded corrie from last night, can I select the recording and fast forward through the adverts?
2. Can I delete programmes I have watched on Sky Q and the next programme will record?

All I want is to be able to have one place to store all my unwatched programmes, which I can view easily and delete when they've been watched. I'm looking to series record something if I like the look of a show that's due to start, and again delete the programmes so I know where I'm up to if I don't watch for a couple of weeks. I'd like to fast forward through the adverts on the recordings.
Can you do the above on Sky Q or was the advisor right to put me on sky stream with ad skipping? I can't help but feel I will be a bit overwhelmed with all the content with stream and I might as well just open the iplayer and itv app!

Thanks for anyone's help

Hi @Emma614

This would probably been better posted in the Q forum, but from memory (I've not had Q for well over two years) yes you can skip adverts and yes if you delete a recording when finished Q will record the next.

However Stream is better at aggregating content from on demand platforms etc and I personally don't have any hardship finding my content and what I've watched etc.

These links might help: https://www.sky.com/help/articles/your-playlist-and-tv-guide-sky-glass

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=WRe5bsJTjSk

Sky seem to be pushing everyone to stream and glass. It was reported (https://news.sky.com/story/sky-to-cut-1-000-roles-this-year-amid-shift-from-satellite-services-13060106) that Sky are cutting their installer jobs, and have committed to satellite services until 2028, as the satellites Sky use are coming to the end of their lifespan shortly after 2030.

But if your not happy, call Sky and push for Q, but note there might be a wait for installation.

Hope this helps

MikeAlanR

The series link will continue to record things even after you've watched and deleted the latest episode from your recordings.
Sky Q would definitely be better for your needs. Sky Stream is fine for many people but it can be a frustrating experience for those who like a more traditional recording style of viewing experience. You cannot for example delete anything on Sky Stream. Everything exists permanently on a server until Sky or any other broadcaster removes it.

You might be right there. The sky Q was a much better product. I had the 2Tb box and never filled it up, but was close enough at 1.6Tb used space.

I did get quotes for sky Q and Sky Stream

Stream was much cheaper and it's guide is all but the same as Q. The difference in price was around £5 to 10 cheaper than Q, but that depends on what you want to add. Add Skipping is chargeable on stream and even things on your playlist will require ad skipping if you want to FF them. I think it's around £6 or £7 to add Ad Skipping to stream or glass.
The apps like Netflix, Amazon, Disney + are their own entity and require you to subscribe, either with or without ads. Netflix is an extra £6 for ad free viewing( more if you want it in uhd and 4 screens), as basic with ads is included in the basic viewing package.

Its because the premise of the system is build on the event/programme rather than episode by episode. Its typically the way streaming platforms works by adding an entire serious to your watchlist.

The best thing about Sky Q is that you can record a program in one room and then watch it in another room on your sky mini box, this is not available with stream. Also with Q with can watch and record at the same time ,turn off the telly then go into the other room and watch from where finished in the last room .
