Many of the free routers ISPs give away (including Sky's own) are not up to the task in many homes so you msy need to buy better WiFi kit. . However simply making sure your router and the puck are out in the open not tucked behind or under other kit can make a big difference.

If your router is too far away for can purchase powerline adapters for about £40-50 which will allow you to connect up via ethernet. If you choose to test the ethernet option, ensure you disable Wifi in the Stream puck settings, as otherwise the puck will keep defaulting back over to Wifi and you may not notice any difference. Its also worth rebooting the puck by unplugging it for a couple of minutes once you have disabled the Wifi, i've noticed in some instances the Wifi doesn't actually disable properly until a reboot is completed.
