Stream sound drop on atmos uhd hdr

Every time I watch a show on any sky channel that's in UHD HDR and Atmos, I will always get a sound drop once in the show at random times. I have read various posts on here and tried everything. I have changed all my HDMi cables to certified 2.1 ones. I have a Sony AF9 tv and a Denon 3700H av receiver. I've tried the stream going into the av receiver and also tried the stream direct to the TV using ARC and Earc. Every time the sound cuts out just for 1 second. This has been on Lazarus Project, Breeders and now Last of Us. It's really annoying I can't fix this and guess I never will 😞

Have you tried requesting a replacement Sky Puck?

@Exiled-in-HH Do you think it could be dodgy then? I swapped my puck upstairs and it still did it.

So it happens on two Pucks.... and the Pucks work OK when not connected to the Denon device?

@Exiled-in-HH I'm guessing the puck either doesn't like the tv or the Denon. There must be other people with these devices though. Maybe I will post on my tv/hifi forums.

Do you get sound drops when either Puck is connected to the TV without the Denon device?

@Exiled-in-HH I cant test that. My tv has no speakers.

How did you get the speakers removed from your Sony AF9 TV?

@Exiled-in-HH they are built into the stand. You remove the stand when you wall mount it. I now have a 5.1.4 Atmos speaker system.

You could reconnect the TV's speaker to determine whether you get sounds drops without the Denon device!

So it's not my system it's just the pucks that can't cope. Watched the Last of Us on my bedroom setup. LG soundbar and Sony tv and the sound dropped out once in the show too.

Will try just watching in UHD since hdr doesn't seem to improve the picture anyway.

@Exiled-in-HH @I wont be taking my tv off the wall to attach the speakers and base. It will take hours and took me ages to get the angle right. It seems I don't have to and it's just the pucks that can't cope.

@Exiled-in-HH Because I think they will all do it. I am sure not many people watch stream in uhd hdr with full atmos surround and that's why not many people have reported the problem on here. I will call Sky at some point and see what they have to say.

Unfortunately, I do with a Samsung Q70R and Bose 600 Smart Soundbar.

Basically, it appears Atmos is broken on Sky Stream. If I force the TV to Dolby Digital rather than DD Plus and have Passthrough set on the Stream (to remove lip sync) I remove the issue. Sound then restricted to Dolby 5.1.

@purpleparrotuk @Let me know if you get anything back from Sky on this, but I've tried with 2 pucks and it's exactly the same. Given you have completely different equipment and the same issue, I'd suggest the Puck/feed is the problem.

BTW, when watching in UHD HDR on demand movies, have you noticed significant artifacts on the widescreen borders? Watching without HDR seems to resolve for me but wondered if you experienced the same. It's quite random and during fast moving action.

Basically, I don't think the pucks have the hardware capable of handling HDR and Atmos properly ( I also get the random crashes around Sky Sports UHD). And before anyone asks, brand new hdmi 2.1 cables and full factory reset has been done. Lol

@RichTBiscuit it's weird because I just watched the finale of Last of Us and no dropout. Maybe it depends on how much bandwidth the episode uses. I haven't noticed the problem with the movies but haven't watched many since getting Stream. Will keep my eyes peeled when I next watch one.

@purpleparrotuk Definately happened for me on the Super Mario Bros movie and HP 5 (kids movie day yesterday!). Rewatching Super Mario now, UHD no HDR no issues.

I have a nagging feeling these pucks were designed as secondary devices so the UHD and HDR requirements would have been minimal. Then they get marketed as a stand alone product and they are just not up to it.

Need to do some research and see what they did in other markets......
