Whilst looking at my bill and usage a few weeks back, I've noticed Sky Watch Data. The last few months has seen some significant data being used and recorded on it. However, up until recently the only Sky app I've used is the MySky app to keep a track of how much data I had left etc. No sports app, no news, no sky go. 4 days ago, I deleted every Sky app (which was just the one, My Sky) so I wasn't using any Sky app on my phone. In the last 4 days, I've used 5.45mb of Sky Watch Data. I'm aware this doesn't come out of my data plan but I'm a confused/concerned as what is exactly being used to determine that I've used that data when I haven't used the apps at all, especially not on 4G/5G?

AIUI it's any traffic to certain Sky resources. Can be adverts for example from other websites.

5Mb is tiny.

The data will always be used when a wifi connection is not available but you should not be "charged" by it from Sky taking it from your monthly allowance.

Having just checked, It's now risen to 20MB so I can now only assume it's registered data use even when using the MySky app on WiFi. A bit strange but no other explanation given no Sky apps were ever connected to 4G/5G yesterday. Perhaps we'll never know.

You shouldn't be charged for using an app on wifi, so when you are try turning mobile data off.

AIUI it doesn't have to be a Sky app - it would be triggered by any traffic to a registered source.

But it should only be for cellular as the only way to identify a Sky account holder request...
