Contract upgrade

I currently have an iPhone 16 and have 24 months left to pay off my contract would I be able to upgrade now or would I have to wait till I have paid my phone off

When a phone has been paid off you can not upgrade it as you can only do this when you are still paying for it so you should be able to do this now. Sky will give you an estimated value of the phone and if that is enough to pay it off then you will owe no more against it, if it isn't enough the difference is added to your next available bill so would need to be paid via that in full.

You can swap at any time after 31 days or until the device is fully paid off.

If you have a Swap24 contract (for example) then it's 3 years long but the usual time to swap is at 2 years. At this point the residual value of the device (subject to condition) should cover the outstanding credit owed on the device and you start a whole new contract.

However, if you swap earlier than this then the residual value of the device is unlikely to cover the outstanding credit - so whilst you can swap and start a new contract the shortfall has to be paid in full on the next bill (which could run into hundreds).
