Fraudulent phone call

Hi all

I had a call supposedly from sky regarding the delivery of a new sim card upgrade to 5g, I was asked to confirm my email address and was told the card would need to be sighned for . Delevry today. was told that I would get an email to confirm. I have not received anything. Is this a scam ?

Read the above link VERY CAREFULLY. If any unordered devices (expensive smartphones) arrive then ensure you contact Sky and they are only returned to the official address. If you return them elsewhere or let someone collect them then the scammers will have the phones, you'll have the bill.

SIM cards are delivered by Royal Mail and don't need signing for. I would check your Sky Mobile account asap.

They try to obtain sufficient information to be able to order expensive mobile devices under your name which Sky innocently deliver to you.

The scammers would then recontact you (again claiming to be Sky) saying they have made a mistake and for you to send it to a (non Sky) address. If you did that they then have the device and you have the bill.

They are very cunning. They may send packaging to post the item (to them) or might even send a 'courier' to collect it.

With any calls from 'Sky' (especially unexpected calls) if the caller asks for your previously agreed telephone password to confirm you're the account holder (which I would expect a genuine Sky agent to do) initially give an INCORRECT one on purpose. If the caller doesn't challenge it then you know it'l be a scam call.

Thanks for the advice, they only aked me to confirm my e.mail address which I thought was susicious as they would allready have it, so I canceled the call.

Indeed. When I get these scammers call I often say just that - "you must have it already?" - They usually disconnect...

@Merlin007 It should be worth noting that with your current sim you simply add the 5G add on from your account, there is no need for any new sim to be sent.

So the call was clearly an attempt to obtain sufficient details for the scammers to order a mobile phone on your account.
