Hi @Lizabeth the £2 charge may work if you are close to a roaming passport country or docked in one. It won't work when at sea and cruise ship roaming charges are very high.

No, there is no data option at sea but making a call to a UK landline or mobile costs £3.60 per minute and receiving calls will set you back £1.80 per minute so you would need to use and pay for ships Wifi if available.

Do note that if near a landline border you phone could connect to a mast and you would either start the charge or depending on the country the higher pay for what you use charges which could see you wrack up a large bill.

Also bear in mind the £2 charge only applies to EU and certain other territories. 'Rest of World' locations can be very expensive.

That's for cellular data in the EU/EEA and a handful of other countries.

It cannot work when out of range of land-based cellphone masts, which have a broadcast distance of a few tens of miles at most. When in sight of most of the worlds coastline, using a cellphone with a Sky SIM would be extremely costly (pounds per megabyte)

Cruise ships use a two-way satellite link to provide on-board WiFi and phone service: this is both expensive for them to buy wholesale and a very nice profit generator.
