topic Esim or sim card? in Sky Mobile

My sim card has failed. Sky has tried to send a new sim but when i asked where it was it turned out they havent sent it due to a technical error. I am still waiting for another SIM card which will take up to 6 days to arrive. My phone Samsung A34 5g will take an esim. Would this be a quicker route to.get my phone working again and would I automatically keep my old number?

thanks for any help with this.
