I am due a free tablet with the purchase of my new phone.

I have been away over the last few weeks and unable to do this.

Now it says it can't do it?

The claim period for such offers is always limited: those running the promotion (in this case Samsung, not Sky) know this reduces the volume of hardware they have to give away.
