Some networks do offer 'data SIMs' but Sky only sell straightforward SIMs - the cost is driven by the amount of monthly data.

Calls and SMS's are generally 'free' but obviously a data-only device won't be using that functionality anyway.

I've recently changed my Sky TV package on line and the person at the end said about mobile sims. I asked if a data only sim would work with a TPLo k router and he said to contact the Sky mobile department. I'm having difficulty getting them on line so thought I'd throw it out to the forum. I currently use an unlimited EE sim in the router but as I have Sky mobile and loads of data rolling over every month, i wondered if a new Sky data only sim contract would work?

No reason why not - you just need to be able to set the APN details.

Thanks very much for the prompt replies. If I can get in touch with Sky mobile and manage to ask about the data only sim, I'll ask directly. Just whilst I can, what is the APN setting, where do I fine it and how do I enter it onto the TP Link router?

Hi @Darbz sky don't do data only sims, the ordinary sky sims should work in your TP link. Order the sim you want from sky.com. There should be a way of accessing the settings menu on your device and then enter the APN (access point name). These are what's required.

Name: Sky Mobile Internet
APN: mobile.sky

There are no 'data only' SIMs via sky mobile - but of course you don't have to use voice/sms functionality of it.

Accessing the APN settings would be a TPLink setting and the manual should detail how to set these.

Interesting that they dont data sims. The guy offered a new sim to any family member and definitely said about a data only sim. As I say, I'll try to contact Sky directly and ask about it. If I find out, I'll post it on here. Thanks again guys. 👍🏻
