I am visiting Japan for 5 days. How do I keep the mobile costs down when messaging UK

Japan is not covered with Skys £2 daily roaming charge, it's £2.16 per MB of data so will be very expensive to use any data there. To make sure you don't incur a large bill turn off roaming and mobile data before leaving the UK airport and consider a cheap local sim.

Hi @KT71 as well as what @Daniel0210 has posted you can turn WiFi on when in flight mode once you are in Japan and take advantage of any free WiFi areas.
