sim data problem dongle

hi i was told by sky that their normal SIMs ie has dta, calls, texts on it willwork with a dongle usb type. however tried in 2 dongles and not producing wifi. i would say thedongle is faulty but 2 different ones from 2 different suppliers? it has been activated according to sky. could the sim otself b faulty? i did think trying it in my phone but have to make it nano size to fit then it would b too small fit in dongle. my dad just wants small amount data to wach 2 0r 3 hours tv evening. as he only get 5 0r 6 stations through flats tv aireal on roof. most mifi things look expensive. so i thought dongle low data b fine for this.

anyideas or help would b great as at moment i have had 2 give him spare phone as a hotspot for his tv and i am always losing mine

. i have seen a type sort of between a usb type dogle and set top box type. would that b easier to set up?i i did set up a dongle 4 him years ago and was easier but cant remeber if it was data only or something else.

Were Sky APN settings applied? (Most dongles require this manually setting as they cannot process network sent ones)

i dont know i tried to get them but only texts them to my new sim card which ii cant see cos in dongle. i would have to make it nano size to fit my phone then too smaall to fit dongle again. can i get them sent to my other phone as sky sim card do u know?
