Old number still showing on Google messages

I've transferred my old number to my new phone and I'm receiving texts ok via my old number but when I text out to someone it shows my new number I don't want. I've received texts from Sky to say my number has been transferred successfully. I've googled the problem and switched off RCS chats and turned back on, switched phone off, taken sim in and out with no luck. It's now jhts been 24 hours since the switch over. Do I need to wait longer? Should I also delete the new sim number from my Google account as I don't don't it? Does that make a difference? Any help would be appreciated.

Is your phone itself via settings now showing the correct number because if it isn't it will need updating to the correct one,

Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure how to find that in settings on a Google pixel 9 pro

Try the settings app then "about phone".
