&lt;P&gt;No: that's always been a choice by Apple to 'encourage' users to pay extra at time of purchase for more built-in storage*.&amp;nbsp; I'd also note that the 12 is now getting on a bit at nearly 4 years old and Apple really wants people to upgrade every couple of years: limited initial on-board capacity is a motivating factor for new sales in the future (or subscription to upgraded iCloud tiers)&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;*actually the 'official' reasons are micro-SD slows performance and compromises the design of the enclosure.&amp;nbsp; That it lets Apple add between £100 and £300 to the base price of, say, an iPhone 14 for a small manufacturing cost in extra chip capacity is a complete coincidence ; )&lt;/P&gt;
