We uninstalled and re-installed the messages app, but texts were still going from the temporary number. Eventually, a full system reset was the only option. Texts are now showing my original number.

There's just one problem now. If I send an SMS, it gets sent twice in a couple of minutes. RCS messages go once as normal.

I thought my porting had completed OK, but I found that outgoing texts are still showing the temporary Sky number. I receive texts sent to my own number or the temporary one. I'm using an Android phone and the RCS part of message settings is holding on to the temporary number. I haven't found a way to remove it. One of my geeky friends says he can uninstall and re-install the system messages app. Does that sound safe to try?

Otherwise I've read that a replacement SIM card would help. But how do you get one? The help pages tell you to phone. Then you give your details to the bot on the phone, and that sends a text telling you to go back to the help pages. I also tried speaking to customer services agents. They both said their computer was slow and left me on hold for 20 minutes. (Was it tea-break time, or are they trying to fake their statistics by saying calls answered in under 2 minutes?) Arrrrgh!

When the bot asks you about text messages or going online say No and stay on the phone.
