Visual noise / grainy screen

Hi there,

I have recently recieved my first sky glass air tv. Live channels look good, occasionally washed out, but clear,, but when I watch a tv show from sky, eg. Possession in UHD, the picture seems to dip in and out of high resolution. Apps like Netflix can also look quite 'grainy'.

Black colour is also an issue, looks pixelated and blocky. I have looked at a few settings, made a variation of vivid, turned off the auto backlight, which I thinks has helped this issue.

Just wondering if there is any thing else i can try?

Sky Glass Air uses global LED backlight dimming. This can have the detrimental effect, particularly on dark scenes, of brightening the image too much as a whole, highlighting poor low-bit rate encoding, resulting in posterisation - the pixellation and blockiness you are seeing. This can be particularly noticeable on UHD HDR content which will push the backlight to maximum.

Local dimming on backlit LCD displays such as Glass gen2 works better by having multiple dimming zones which can go bright and dark independent of each other.

You have to remember that Glass Air is a low cost TV so is therefore limited in the picture quality it can produce.
