Sky Glass Turns Wi-Fi back on

Has anyone fixed the issue of Sky Glass turning the Wi-Fi back on regularly despite switching it off in settings and connecting via wired Ethernet.

Mine does it from time to time and then loses good connectivity and dies involving a power off reboot normally.

Connect it with an ethernet cable , if you can it's more stable

It always has been. Hence it gets unstable when wifi randomly switches back on in settings.

Thanks - I searched but didn't find it in any obvious place.

Does this mean I need to spend an hour on the phone with Sky or is there a form/email I can use?

I've seen claims that it only takes 5mins.... although most take lot longer to get through to Sky's CSs by phone☹️

Not contacted Sky yet but hav3 found connecting to my Wi-Fi and then switching Wi-Fi off and going back to wired has significantly improved stability.

@Exiled-in-HH In the last 2 years I have probably phoned Sky on 4 or 5 occasions and have always been surprised at how fast I was actually talking to Customer Services. On one occasion it took about 15 minutes but on all the other calls it was less than 5 minutes 😀. Maybe it is just luck, who knows 🤷‍♂️

The difficulty is usually getting past the chatbot.

They know, and they don't care. It annoys me immensely. If I've turned an option off, I've turned it off for a reason. I don't want it turning itself back on.

Easiest fix is to change your wifi password (don't update the new password in Wi-Fi settings on sky glass)

You are replying to a old thread

The WiFi issue on Sky Glass not staying off was fixed with a software update QS30 back in August 2024

Since August 2024 when you set WiFi to off it will stay off

When using wired Ethernet connection always set WiFi to off in network settings

Whilst it may have been fixed in Glass, I can assure you it still occurs on my Puck. Even after a factory reset and ensuring latest software it happened a number of times last week. Also the puck will come out of standby and fail to connect to WiFi even though it's connected to Ethernet with WiFi switched off and stop on the Blue WiFi screen.

This then seems to cause other issues with DHCP and IP addresses. I seem to have stopped the puck hanging by reserving 2 IP addresses for it, one tied to each MAC address. So far I have had no blue screens since reconfiguring my router. I did the same for Glass ages ago when I was looking to reserve bandwidth for streaming but never needed to.

I will double check that the Glass WiFi fix has worked tomorrow.

Once you have switched the wifi off on the puck you need to go into settings and restart the puck. This seems to save the setting

It does save it for a while but at random still switches WiFi back on and was regularly hanging on startup looking for the WiFi even if the WiFi is switched off. To me it looks like there are still some software faults around how the Puck is using the two network connections.

The other option is to reset the network connection in the settings and not add your WiFi network back on

That is what I did. Completely removed the Wifi and not switch it on after a factory reset but that still didn't solve the issue. It wasn't until I configured my DHCP server to reserve an IP address for each MAC address on the network 'cards' in the Puck that this worked. I think it's a Puck issue as I have a number of other devices with multiple network cards which behave correclty.

At the moment, I have the best stability I have had out of both the Puck and Glass and it was nothing to do with Latency or Bandwidth which is where Sky started from a technical perspective. I thought it might help others who may be struggling with connectivity on here.
