Does anyone know if Sky Glass has to be in stand-by mode constantly (i.e. overnight, etc), or can it be left unplugged to save power? And will it perform better either which way?

Ideally you'd let it stay on standby as updates and general maintenance happens overnight. However it's unlikely to break anything, it's just not using it as designed.

I would recommend keeping it on standby.

Leave it unplugged if you want to save a few quid. Updates are so infrequent it doesn't really matter - they'll download when it next switches on and install the next time it's powered on after being plugged in again.

Will just mean it takes a while longer to be in a useable state, so depends if you're bothered about that extra few seconds you'll have to wait.

I don't turn off WiFi, though. I doubt you'll notice much difference in your electricity bills if you turn either or both off overnight.

Personally I would recommend leaving a broadband router switched on permanently. It allows firmware updates and network checks to occur during the night, giving minimal disruption during the day. It can also cause IP address issues if your router has to continuously reset itself on a daily basis.

Smart TVs and Sky Glass TVs are also best left in standby overnight, rather than being fully turned off at the wall, for similar reasons. The energy savings is a matter of pence across a year, as it can often take more power to fully cold boot a TV every day than just to bring it out of standby.

It's good pactise to manually perform a reboot of a Smart TV or Glass TV every few days in order to clear RAM caches and (in the case of Glass) reset the connection to Sky's servers.

I leave both my glass and pucks on standby always. I pulled a spare puck from the drawer last week that hadn't been used or turned on in more than a year

It powered up in a minute and was operational straight away. When I checked the firmware later that day it was on the newest version ..... I'm guessing it updated when I first booted it up.

as others have stated best to leave your router on constantly to avoid any issues.
