We have about 5 months left on our warranty. But many products do only come with 1 year and you have to pay extra for extended insurance like when you buy something from Currys say on finance unless you take out an additional guarantee.

I know you shouldn't have to but can you not buy a soundbar in the meantime?

This is why every TV I have bought in the past 20 years has come from either John Lewis or Richer Sounds. They offer 5 or 6 year warranties, completely free, on every TV they sell.

I had an old Hitachi CRT fail on me after 4 and a bit years. John Lewis allowed me to swap it to a brand new model and only pay the difference in price.

Richer Sounds were excellent too at getting a 3 year old Panasonic LCD set repaired. I was loaned a replacement whilst it was away in the workshop. Came back after a week working perfectly and lasted another 3 years.

Hi

We have a sky glass on A 4 year contract which is 2 years and 1 month old. The speaker started playing up a couple of weeks ago and sky are refusing to do anything about it but want us to continue paying for the TV for another 2 years so I am looking to take them to court under consumer rights as the TV has not lasting as long as expected. I would like to hear from anyone who has experienced problems with the sound on their sky glass where the TV is under 4 years old as it will help our court case thanks

In what way is the speaker playing up? As a starting point, I'd suggest raising a formal complaint with Sky: https://www.sky.com/help/articles/how-to-make-a-complaint

Already done that and there response was to sell us a new TV for£400 which they later dropped to £250 but I find that unacceptable as we're still paying for the original TV. They have now started they are not prepared to do anything else and have closed the complaint

We have a sky glass on A 4 year contract

That's not strictly correct. You purchased a television set which had a two year warranty using an unsecured personal loan that had an agreed four year repayment term (there was also a two year repayment option)

Technically the finance contract is entirely independent of the TV hardware and the Sky content subscription (which used to have an 18 month minimum term, now 24 months)

Irrespective of that, personally I think the television should be expected to last longer. However, it's best to be accurate with terminology, particularly when raising a complaint or contemplating legal measures.

With Sky Glass you can pay extra for Sky Protect insurance, or purchase a different brand of smart TV from somewhere like John Lewis or Richer Sounds, both of whom provide free 5 or 6 year warranties with most TVs they sell. You can always add a Sky Stream puck to any other brand of TV and get the same SkyOS that is present on Sky Glass.
