topic TNT Sport slow speeds/buffering in Sky Glass

We've had a Sky Glass for just under a year and it's been pretty difficult the entire time. Trying to watch Moto GP on TNT/Discovery+ is so frustrating because all it does is buffer, pause and it doesn't load to HD, let alone UHD. Sometimes it we watch it back after it's been aired it's okay but we want to watch it LIVE and it just loads so slowly. We have super fast sky broadband, and it's in the same room as the TV, right next to it and every time I've checked and there have been no issues? We're running about 73 mb/s which should be more than enough for livestreaming. We've tried turning off and unplugging the sky glass/wifi box, using an Ethernet cable and nothing works! At this point I just want to get rid of it because it doesn't ever seem to work like it's supposed to.

Hi @Morgan11

With 73 Mbps nearly half you bandwidth is being consumed by Glass so can see why you are having issues with the experience. But the main thing is the quality of the connection. When you try ethernet cable have you turned WiFi off in the settings? Glass seems to have this quirk where it will still connect to WiFi even with a cable connected unless you turn it off.

Failing this you will need to investigate if there are any settings on your router that allow you to set QOS and prioritise traffic for glass. You don't say who your ISP is or what router you have. I have a glass and 4 pucks using standard EE kit and have no issues whatsoever. However I have 1.6 gig broadband.

Another thing to try is if possible tell your router to use custom DNS settings over your ISPs try fast (1.1.1.1) and Google (8.8.8.8) respectively, this solved issues when I had BT kit in the early days of glass.

MikeAlanR

Also you mentioned you tried using Ethernet as a test as well, when you tried ethernet did you also disable the wifi in the Glass network settings and then reboot the Glass TV by unplugging it for a couple of minutes?

If the Wifi is still enabled when the ethernet cable is plugged in it will default back over to the Wifi connection, so its possible your test was actually invalid unless the Wifi was disabled.
