Hearing aid connection

Partner has spent a fortune on hearing aids.... they have a device to connect to the tv.... Phonak' but can't find a port to plug it into on sky glass.... anyone come across this?

@Alibobs Sky Glaas doesn't have an optical port but hopefully the hearing aids are bluetooth and if they are and if they areA2DP bluetooth compatible you may be able to connect them to the Glass TV by bluetooth

As @Laing1 indicates, Glass is not an ideal purchase for such use as it doesn't have optical audio or analogue audio output sockets.

If the Phonak system or the hearing aids themselves aren't capable of Bluetooth reception then you'd need to acquire an eARC or ARC to optical audio / analogue HDMI extractor, attach that to HDMI #2, the connect the Phonak to that.

@Alibobs I have Phonak hearing aids myself and they are paired by Bluetooth to my Glass TV as they support the same profile as the Glass TV. The mst complicated bit is setting the aids into Bluetooth discovery mode where your partner will need to read Phonak's instructions. Go into the settings menu on the Glass go down to Connected Devices, then Bluetooth and click on Add a device and you should see one of the Phonak aids listed after a few seconds select that and both aids should connect..

When watching TV use the ... button on the remote and you will be able to select thecaudio output you want which is either TV speakers, Bluetooth Audio or Bluettoth Audio and TV speakers.

Really it depends if the 'device' has to be cabled to the television set and then rebroadcasts to a proprietary receiver/aids, or if the aids themselves are equipped with the standard A2DP Bluetooth profile.

struggling to pair to the tv.... read the instructions on pairing the hearing aids but sky glass is not finding them!

If someone is using Bluetooth hearing aids does that mean other viewers can't hear through the speakers?

@bayardm if you use the ... you can choose Bluetooth and TV speakers to make both work.

@Alibobs not every modern (ie expensive😀) Phonak aids support Bluetooth my wife's in the ear canal aids do not. My behind the ear ones do. If the aids have batteries simply opening the battery door and closing it puts the aids in bluetooth discovery mode. If like mine they are the rechargeable type putting them into the charger then removing them does the same thing.

I've recently started wearing hearing aids, and am not just dissapointed but annoyed that there is no connection available to Sky Glass. I read on here how one customer was advised to return Glass and go to Q. It is clearly discriminatry, and NOT HELPFULL. Does anyone representing SKY actually read and respond to these types of discussions from loyal customers, or do they not bother as they have captured you already. I may have to consider trying another company, but not sure SKY would be even bothered.

Some posts are out-of-date: Glass now has Bluetooth output to compatible aids introduced through a software update. The lack of physical audio output cannot be remedied unless there's a v2 hardware release: all current Glass television sets are the original specification from 2021.

@Mal11 If the hearing aids are A2DP compatible they should connect to the Glass TV by bluetooth

I thought they could via blue tooth. The can automatically connect to my phone, car, iPad etc

@Alibobs That certainly used to be the case but following a software update some time ago compatible hearing aids will work with Sky Glass. They need to be A2DP compliant.

@Alibobs You can only connect hearing aids to Glass via bluetooth and as mentioned they must be A2DP compliant.

Not all hearing aids will connect to Glass so might be worth buying a hraing loop that connects to Bluetooth and will then link directly to hearing aids using the T Switch. We have a room loop system supplied via British Institute for the Deaf. It is not Bluetooth so purchased a Bluetooth receiver/transmitter (cost from £7 via Amazon) which received the Bluetooth sound from the Sky Glass set and will feed this into the loop control box, so again, you can listen via the T switch on the hearing aids.w
