Exploding batteries??

Left my sky glass remote on the arm of my sofa, away from heat sources/electrical outputs last night, my toddler had it this morning complaining the TV wouldn't turn on. Opened the case and one battery had exploded. Is this a common issue? And is it solely the fault of battery quality or the remote itself? Hoping for a replacement but I'll certainly not be leaving it within reach of the little ones again. How dangerous!

Just search this forum and you will see others have reported this same issue. It doesn't affect all remotes but clearly some batches have this fault.
