Make sure you're recording the first showings of programmes, not repeats which carry sign language. For example The Repair Shop won't have signing if you record it tomorrow at 8pm on BBC One, but the repeat on BBC Two on Monday morning will have signing.

Why are the BBC programmes available on the Sky+ Home menu only recording with sign language? Is there a way to stop this and record the original version instead? I know, in theory, I could record at a later date — but that shouldn’t be necessary with Sky+.

Yes. Record the non-signed version. You can't remove signing from a programme which carries it.

If I'd recorded the original, then I wouldn't have to use the catch up service.

That's literally what it's for.

Sky need to sort this out, I hste the rewind/ fast forward interface on iplayer.

You're talking about Catch Up. Sky simply make available on Catch Up what the BBC have sent them. You could ask the BBC.
