Playing Recording just shows Blank Screen

I have a Sky + box but would like to upgrade to Sky Q. However, I have an old recording which I want to watch but that just goes to a blank blue screen when played.

I have tried the usual reset by switching off at the wall and waiting several minutes; that makes no difference. It is only one recording which has this problem - all other recordings play OK.

Is there any way of repairing this recording or transferring it to a Sky Q box?

You cannot transfer recordings between boxes

Try a Planner Rebuild

You can't transfer recordings to a Sky Q box. You may be able to download it again once you've got the box.

I will cc in one of the other Superusers who has compiled a very helpful guide for those thinking of transitioning from Plus to Q which may provide some insight into something you hadn't considered...
