Is Sky+ HD service being discontinued any time soon?

I wish to find out if my existing Sky+ HD service is likely to be discontinued any time soon as I am looking at acquiring a spare receiver in case my existing receiver stops functioning because of its age.

There has been no announcement on Sky+ ending, however don't bother buying a second hand box. It won't work.

Sky+, being a legacy package, is no longer supported by Sky. You can't now pair a viewing card to another Sky+ box that it wasn't paired to at the end of October 2024.

You can still call Sky to discuss your options which will be upgrading to Sky Q or moving to Glass / Steam to continue to view Sky content through a Sky subscription.

Don't buy another Sky+ box as your card is now locked to the box it was in at the end of October 2024, you will not be able to pair the card and the replacement box will be a large paperweight 😞

Satellite television broadcasting to the UK and RoI will probably cease around the end of this decade: one possibility is 2029, which would be the 40th anniversary of BSkyB.
