Reception is dependent on your dish and cabling, not the box you're using, whether it's Sky+ or Sky Q.

If you're 'in contract' youmay not be able to cancel. If Sky agree that you can, you'll have to pay off the remainder of the contract - i.e. roughly your monthly repayment multiplied by the number of months remaining until your minimum term finishes.

Sky+ box

I've recently had trouble with Sky+ reception, informed Sky who told me I need to change to SkyQ. From what I've read on hear SkyQ is just as bad yet they've upped my monthly bill! Engineer turned up today but couldn't access dish as I had things in the way of his ladder. Ideally I would like to cancel the whole subscription, which after being a customer for 28 years is extortionate! Any ideas or advice anyone? Also what does minimal cancellation period mean?
