Paying just to retain the recording/planner function?

Hi, my parents are currently paying around £41 a month to Sky even though they don't watch any Sky channels (maybe Sky Atlantic a handful of times a year, which they could happily do without)

The problem is they use the Sky+ planner a lot and don't want to lose their recordings. Is there anyway around this please? It feels kinda mad to be paying around £500 a year just to be able to record shows

@gdrew , unfortunately not you need an active subscription to the channels the recordings are from with the exception of FTA channels

further sky no longer sell recording/playback only subscriptions

Probably less mad from the viewpoint of Comcast stockholders.

By definition using a Freesat recorder would actually be 'free' going forwards, but existing recordings on the Sky box would be lost if that subscription is ceased.

Thank you both, I'll call Sky just in case they can do something but sounds like cancelling is the best option then

Presuming one of your parents is the account holder you won't be able to cancel on their behalf.

To cancel their TV subscription fully, if they are out of contract they'll need to give Sky the required 31 days notice. The latest T’s and C’s explicitly state they can’t cancel when still in a minimum term deal unless Sky agree. If they agree your parents have to pay the remainder of the discounted term.

(Make sure the flag in the bottom right corner is the correct one ie; UK or ROI).
UK customer ~ The link may include an email link and also a Message Us option (which is normally available between 9am and 7.30pm).
ROI customer ~ it’s only by calling Sky Ireland or writing in.

If they successfully cancel they should receive an acknowledgment email from Sky.
