@Varny From 29th October 2024 sky has removed the ability to pair viewing cards to replacement boxes

viewing cards are now locked to the last box it was paired too (note: viewing cards are non transferable between accounts - hence buying a second hand box with a card included will NOT work)

any new viewing card sent will not work regardless of what you were told

you will need to call sky and discuss your options regarding upgrading to one of sky’s current tv products to continue to receive sky tv services

Why is it important that you know where the box comes from seeing as no viewing card can now be paired to it ?

The bottom line is that no matter where the 'new' box was acquired from it won't work so the source is irrelevant.

I'm caught in this position too. My hard drive died on my sky HD box. I just bought a reconditioned new skyhd box and can't pair it. All tha channels are there except the sports channels which i record from.

The supplier I bought from isn't responding the emails!

Depending on your technical capability you could take the hard drive out of the new box and put it in the old box, which the card should still pair with.

It is not easy to replace drives in DRX890/895 boxes ... check out YouTube for the procedure😉

They were probably unaware of the change by Sky. If they were selling the box with no mention of pairing then it's not really their issue anyway.

That would be the key. The boxes can be legitimately sold as working Freesat boxes. Only if it was advertised as being able to be paired with a Sky viewing card (which seems unlikely) would there be any comeback on the seller.

My Sky+ HD Box just died completely. So have just purchased the eaxct same model refurbished. I have popped my card into the new box. So I just need to quicky pair the card to resume access to sky. Need it to watch the F1 this weekend. Whats the pairing procedure?

Your card is locked to your old box, you can no longer get a card for a replacement box. You'll need to move to Sky Q, Sky Glass or Sky Stream. Sky+ is no longer supported
