This morning we suddenly cannot get onto any channels . It says your sky+hd box isn't getting a satellite signal. The weather is good, nothing is blocking the satellite dish. I have done all the steps it requires on the yellow button and online and nothing is helping.

Almost certainly a dish misalignment. Although Sky themselves no longer support Sky+ and Sky+HD, if you have Sky Protect through Domestic and General Insurance you can call them otherwise you'll need to employ a local satellite engineer at your own expense to check it (or upgrade to Sky Q or change to Glass / Stream).

I didn't know that, wouldn't the basic channels BBC 1 etc still not work? I just tried putting the old viewing card into the other box and connecting aerial cables at the back and that still had same issue so I put it back as before.

Might be a problem with the cable from the multiswitch to your flat. Or possibly the connections at the back of your Sky box. After turning off your Sky box at the plug, check that the two dish connections at the back of your Sky box are secure.

Ibput 1 fails to work on some channels. Putting the input 1 cable end into the other port showed signal on input 2 so I assume this tells me the cable is fine so must be a dish or lnb issue?

Managed to fix mine. I purchased a replacement LNB from Amazon, logged the angle that the existing one was installed, and installed the new to same. All now working.

Having reviewed the old LNB, the white rubber bit had perished and I presume this is the reason I lost input 1 and remaining signal

For those with sky plus hd having similar issues, try that as £15 LNB not a bad risk to take to try out.
