I just received a letter from Sky saying no sky+box updates. I have to go skyQ BUT I have magic eyes on all my TVs, multi room extra is £15 per box (per room per month) is there a way round this or when will the updates stop ??

There hasn't been an update for Sky boxes for several years. Providing you have a Sky+HD box, it will continue to work as normal, for the foreseeable future.

There are no relevant updates: Sky+ HD will never do UHD, host apps or have access to Sports+ because the underlying platform is fundamentally not capable of doing so.

Broadcast channel EPG changes are not 'updates' and will continue to happen.

The messaging on this from Sky might politely be described as a red herring (other potentially applicable phrases are available ; )

Potential alternatives to magic eye distribution do exist (HDMI over co-ax, or HDbaseT) but at considerable capital cost.
