Moving home query

Hi all.

I'm moving out of my parents house in the next month or so. I currently have a Sky+HD box in my room which I've had for over 10 years. Is it possible to transfer my box to my new flat (which isn't rented) and have a new dish installed so I can continue using it?

I'm planning on downgrading to just the standard pack without sports/movies as at the moment I'm sharing the billing cost with my dad but this will be changing once I've moved out (we have multiroom with two boxes but the plan is they will keep one box and I'm planning on taking the other with me). The overall Sky account is under my parents name but just wanted to ask how easy, if possible, it is to move my box over?

I understand that Sky are removing themselves from dishes and pushing for Sky Glass but just wanted to see what my options are.

Effectively you would become a new customer and as such it would be very unlikely that SKY would let you keep using SKY HD

Even if they let you split the account & keep the box (unlikely , as I say) they would not install a new dish /cabling for SKY HD

Assuming you are able to have a dish they will let you have SKY Q & install a dish/cabling - although you may wish to read some notes I have made for people considering switching from SKY +/HD to SKY Q SKY +/HD to SKY Q

Sky will offer Sky Q but not Sky Plus as this service is now obsolete for new installs

Are there any restrictive covenants with regard satellite dish installation at the flat?

Ah ok. So it's not looking likely that I can take my Sky+HD box with me, which is a shame but I guess it's got to go at some time. It's mainly because of the stuff I've had saved on the planner over the years so was keeping fingers crossed that they might have been able to transfer it over to another property.

Thank you all for your help. I really appreciate it and it's helped me now figure what to do moving forward.

So, SkyQ would be my next option as I'm not looking to get Sky Glass for the time being.

As far as I'm aware, it should be fine but I will need to double check with the solicitors for the property

Another option is a Sky Stream Puck ... same TV service as on a Sky Glass TV but using a small box😉
