My mum has been with Sky for over 20 years.
She's registered blind, due to macular degeneration but can see enough to enjoy watching the soaps on TV, mainly the terrestrial channels and likes to record them on series link.
I'm reluctant for her to change from Sky as she's familiar with how to drive it, but the cost!!

TV - BoxSets package - £49

Broadband - £23

Landline - Rental £19, Anytime extra £13, voicemail £2

Anyone got advice on reducing the costs? Someone said that my mum could use the sky tv box to watch terrestrial tv and still be able to record on series link etc with minimal or no subscription. Is this true?

The boxsets package is an old now discountnued package as that was replaced a number of years ago by the Sky Signature package which also allows access to boxsets in SD so it might be worth speaking to Sky about this and seeing if they would offer her any discount if she agrees to a new 18 month contract.

It used to be possible to do this but with a Sky+ box I'm not sure it is possible anymore as Sky would want her to upgrade to a Sky Q box to be able to go on the Essentials package which would allow this.

@JonP1 I would be very wary of options to switch to SKY Q (which SKY are likely to push) based on what you have said about reduced vision & your mum's familiarity with SKY +/HD - SKY Q has a completely different UI

Regards to the TV Package, as others have said, she is on an old package. Changing to Sky Signature should bring the cost down. But, as mentioned, I don't know if Sky will permit that whilst staying on Sky+HD. Like @nigea99 says though changing to Sky Q probably wouldn't be wise for your mum.

The broadband doesn't need to be with Sky and there are much better deals out there. For comparison, I pay TalkTalk £25 for the Broadband & Line Rental element that she is paying £42 for.
