Apple mail wont send emails

My email account (apple mail) has decided it no longer wants to send mail (but will receive). When i check the account settings it says the host name (outgoing) is smtp.ntlworld.com which i presume is correct. I haven’t altered any of the other settings. Why is this not working?!

Is this for a Sky email address? NTL are now Virgin, so possibly you should be asking there, if that SMTP address is correct.

Sky SMTP server is smtp.mail.sky.com.

Hi Jayach, yes I was formerly with Virgin, transferred to Sky a few months back - transition was fine, it's only just decided the password is incorrect, no idea why!

current smtp setup:

smtp.ntlworld.com

not sure what the host name should be set as? Should that be imap. something?

I believe that is the problem.

Virgin let you keep your email address for 90 days after you leave, presumably they do the same with ntlworld addresses.

No. 90 days after your Virgin Media broadband contract finishes, your Virgin Media email account will be closed and your emails and contacts deleted.

If you need a new email address you will have to set one up elsewhere as it isn't possible to open a Sky email address now. I would go with Gmail or Outlook.com as these are not tied into an ISP so should you leave Sky in the future you will not need to look for a new email account again.

I believe that Computeractive Magazine are indicating that the email domain" ntlworld" is being shut down and users need to create a new email account with a different provider
