Emails disappeared from folders

I recently separated my inbox into different folders to help with organisation. The folders that were already active for sometime are fine, I can continue to access the emails present in these, however, all emails added to the new folders I have created have disappeared and the folders say "no mail" when opened.

I have tried accessing on iPhone Mail app, Yahoo mail app and online browser for my Sky Yahoo account but on all platforms the folders are empty. The emails are not in my junk, archive or deleted email folders either. I have tried deleting my account and readding on a few occasions but this has done nothing. These emails lost are very important and hold information I require access to so any advice would be much appreciated.

Yesterday I seemed to have a number of previously deleted emails appear in my inbox too.

Just to confirm - you've logged in via sky.com using your browser and the emails are missing from there?

If that's the case, you could try Yahoo's recovery process here. However, it may not recover them as the emails had been moved out of your Inbox when they went missing.

If that doesn't recover them, they're gone for good, I'm afraid, unless you maintained a backup. There's just a faint possibility that if you replied to any of these emails, you may have quoted the original message in your reply.

I've always used an email client (Thunderbird) to download all my emails automatically.

Important ones are all stored in local folders created inside the email client .The rest are deleted.

I also back up the profile containing all data relating to Thunderbird at least once a month.

I'm sure other email clients can do the same.

Thank you for this - I used the recovery and got all my emails back! Including all in the folders.

Good to hear. Now might be the time to consider backup arrangements in case it happens again!
