Yes, I was sent the Product Key and it was accepted on installation, so all seems well.

I don't think it's appropriate for me to say specifcally where I purchased it from, except to say it was one of the major, well-known discounting groups. I came across their advertisment purely by chance on Facebook.

My current laptop is 9 years and the time has come to upgrade to a new one.

At the moment I read my Sky Yahoo e/mail via Outlook 2016 which is installed on the current laptop.

When I move to the new laptop, what options will allow me to continue reading my Sky e/mails - including all the historic mails sent to me and new ones received in the future.

If possible I am trying to avoid having to pay £100+ for the M/soft 365 annual subscription which I am told is required if I want to continue using Outlook.

Please note that I am NOT asking for and do not want to install unlicenced software - I am merely seeking a less expensive / free legitimate solution that will allow me to continue to access my Sky mails (both past, presesnt and future).

One other question:

On my account, I have e/mails right back to 2007 - are these stored locally on my latop or are they on a Sky server somewhere - or both ? Apologies if that is a dumb question !

Thanking you in advance.

If it's licensed for use on another machine, and you still have the installation media you can install Outlook 2016.

If you copy the pst file from your current laptop to the same folder on your new laptop, you'll have exactly the same experience as now.

If you're not already, you'll need to use an app password for Outlook on the new laptop.

I've just upgraded to the fully licensed Microsoft Office 2024 Pro suite which includes Outlook 2024 for the princely sum of £12 which might be worth a look for your new laptop.

Outlook keeps all the emails you've synchronised with the online server indefinitely. You may find them too via online access to Sky Yahoo Mail here: https://www.sky.com/signin/email

Thank you for the response Mark39 - much appreciated. I don't have the orignal media for Outlook 2016. I did see similar offers as the one you availed of for Office 2024 but thought these were too good to be true and wasn't tempted.

Can I ask where you purchased yours - I assume you were sent an installation key ?

@4500bc wrote:.

On my account, I have e/mails right back to 2007 - are these stored locally on my latop or are they on a Sky server somewhere - or both ?

If you are using IMAP to access your emails (not POP), and I would assume you are, then all your emails are stored on the server, nothing is stored locally.

If you setup a new client/app on the new laptop they should all be present, the same as currently.

As for a free client, Thunderbird is good, and is fairly easy to setup.

Another free option is "new" Outlook, and is the default app supplied with Windows, now Microsoft have retired Mail. It's basically Outlook on the web, bundled as an app.

Like @Mark39, I've installed Office 2024, including Outlook, for a couple of people who wanted "Classic" Outlook, and have not paid as much as £12, and not had any problems with the installation or key provided, but the version you get is usually the LTSC one which is supposed to be for use in corporate environments.

Do let us know what you decide, and how you get on, and do ask for any more advice if you need it

Edit: Quick query, If you are using 2016 on your current laptop, how did it get there? Was if pre-installed when you bought it?
