No skytalk landline dial tone

For a few weeks my landline was very crackly and difficult to hear the other person talking. Now I haven't a dial tone at all. I have tried using a different phone but it is jsut the same. My son tried to ring me and the phone rang but when I tried to answer the call there was no sound at all. If anyone could please help it would be very much appreciated. Thank you.
