Crackling on the line

First of all the landline won't ring. The answerphone doesn't turn on.

Once I answer the phone the line is very bad with crackling so I find it very hard to heaar the person on the other end. I have bought a different phone and plugged that in. Makes no difference. I've unplugged it and that hasn't changed the problem. PLease can you test the line?

@Pennydutfield43 Is your broadband affected also in any way with this issue with your phoneline crackling?

Thank you @Highlinder I've tried everything you have suggested and eventually managed to get a phone number for Sky. I've phoned them (not on my landline 😉 and they are going to look into it. Many thanks for all your suggestions.

@HighlinderSky agreed there is a problem with my line and are sending out an engineer to test same. They say it is in the street. I am going to contact my neighbours to see if they have had the same problem.
