How do i reinstate my old telephone number

We sold our house and went to live with relatives and left Sky while we were waiting for a new house (at the time of selling we didnt have a new house to move to), this process was quite quick and we are now back with Sky (within 8 weeks). We have been issued with a new landline number but i would really like our old number back is there a way in which we can get this back as we have been given one very different to the area we now live in?

In short no, the number would have been returned to the pool and may well have bee re-used.
